Self-education

There is much that you can learn that is not part of a class in school or college. Education can be achieved without getting a degree. A lot of a person's education involves self-education, especially as an adult when he or she has completed school. People who are self-educated have acquired knowledge or a skill by themselves, rather than it being taught by someone else such as a teacher at school. Self-education is a life-long learning process that a person directs on their own. It is often based on one's own chosen interests. Self-education is the act of taking your learning into your control. It is your choice to further yourself. Everyone can benefit from continuing to strive for self-education. The drive and motivation to further one’s knowledge and skill set is important for success. Self-education can be as easy as reading an extra book on a new subject or learning about something on the internet your own.

Ways to self-educate yourself:

  1. Attend workshops in your community. Some are free or low cost.

  2. Take online courses through a college or educational organization. Many are free.

  3. Check out and read books from the library.

  4. Find used textbooks and learn from them.

  5. Watch educational videos on YouTube.

  6. Explore educational websites.

  7. Get hands-on experience like a job or volunteer work to expand your knowledge.

  8. Find a mentor and learn from them in a field they have expertise in.
